Bad Finnish Birdwatcher

Wednesday, March 21, 2007 - Baltic Gull

In the afternoon I was on the seashore, getting the year-ticks that were there to be taken. Black-headed Gulls, I knew they were there. Also a lone Lesser Black-backed Gull (of the nominate subspecies fuscus of course, Baltic Gull in other words) had returned from Africa. A beautiful Baltic Gull I might add.

A lone Crow watched by as the gull pecked at a fish on the ice. Whenever the Crow got too close, the gull chased it away. I took some crappy photos of the two. Then I was distracted for a while - by Eiders I guess. Then when I looked back at the same spot on the ice, the gull and the crow were away. Instead, there was a big black lump there, even blacker then the previous two. A Raven. It didn't settle for pecking the fish. It took the whole thing and flew off.
