A Ring-billed Gull in Venice, NE ItalyThe first Ring-billed Gull Larus delawarensis for Italy was found by me on December 19, 2000 near Chioggia, S of Venice, NE Italy. It stayed there at least through February 12, 2001. Stefano Castelli found the second bird for Italy on February 2004, in the town of Venice, close to the famous St. Marco square. Probably, however, it was the same bird of Chioggia, since both showed two different coloured eyes: one iris was typically light yellow, whereas the other one was brownish yellow. The Venician Ring-billed returned also in winter 2004-2005 and finally yesterday January 2, 2006, Stefano Castelli found it during its 3rd (6th?!) winter in Italy. Photo by Menotti Passarella taken in February 2004. 14:27 - Tuesday, January 3, 2006 - post comment
