BIRDING IN LANZAROTE (CANARY ISLANDS)

Saturday, April 7, 2007 - THE LEUCISTIC WHITE WAGTAIL AT ARRECIFE

by Francisco Javier García Vargas

On 07/IV/2007, I could see a group of White Wagtails at Arrecife. When the birds flew, I could see one of them that, at the first sight, looked all white, except by the black and white head patern of this species. This bird came on the swimming pool inside a property and I took some shots of it, very poor because the bird was so distant.

At flight, the bird looks all white, except by the black on head and buff. It doesn´t show any black in tail.

It has less contrast between upper and underparts than a normal individual. Upperwing was nearly white.
