BIRDING IN LANZAROTE (CANARY ISLANDS)

Tuesday, September 11, 2007 - AUGUST 2007 LANZAROTE REPORT

by Francisco Javier García Vargas

On august 2007, there were some interesting observations. About rarities, one Grasshopper Warbler at Janubio salt pans on 31/VIII was a very nice surprise.

About scarce migrants, the most remarkable was an adult Black-crowned Night Heron at Arrecife on 21/VIII, the group of 7 White Storks that have remained at Arrecife into september, 1 Eurasian Oystercatcher at Janubio since 27/VIII, staying there until the beginning of september, 3 Ruffs at Janubio since 17/VIII that have remained there into september and 1 Wood Sandpiper at Janubio on 29/VIII.

The first Black-headed Gulls, Yellow Wagtails and Willow Warblers have been seen in august too.
