November 4, 2006 - a yank at last! |
My first yank of the autumn at Galley arrived in the form of a female ring-necked duck in with the scaup flock on Kilkeran Lake this morning (136) - 17 years to the day since I found my first ever one!

A tremendously bad record shot of the ring-necked duck on Kilkeran Lake today - any tips Carmo?
A few finches were also knocking about, with c.12 chaffinches, c.10 redpoll, and 1 siskin seen around Galley this morning. The juvenile american golden plover and the lesser yellowlegs were seen again at Rosscarbery today.

first ring-necked was a fine female on meikle loch, north east scotland in 1989, found by meself and nobby back in the days when we were just finding our feet up there - put us on the map it did - fame and fortune followed shortly after!

| hey fella, nice one on the Ring-necked duck. As regards tips on the photos...get closer :) Found a lifer y'day...Chestnut-eared Bunting! Nice bird. Was supposed to go for Golden Eagles today but was waiting at the wrong place so missed my lift...they saw the eagles...I'm gutted and getting drunk on wine now to lift my spirits. A lifer gone abegging. Stunning views too of course. Typical. Not much else happening. |

Hi Col,
Nice to get on to this place for the first time in ages: Surfbirds pulled their finger out!
Shame the Ring-necked was gone on Sunday, but a close male Merlin was nice.
Carmo: you should know that it's impossible to get close to birds on Kilkerran....
