April 30, 2007 - whiskered tern ya bas! |
Great views of a cracking whiskered tern at Lough Beg this morning. News broke late last night but thankfully it hung around today - a great way to draw level with our japanese reader, and of course only the fifth Cork record too!
Galley was quiet again this morning with just a few wheatears around and a swift over Long Strand (92). |

Hi Col,
Actually the 5th county record per Birdguides, but the first one since 1988. A cracking bird alright, another tick for this low lister...

Carmo, the first Cork Whiskered Tern was before even you were born...1968! The 1988 bird was the fourth.
Not sure what that brings me to on me Cork list, probably well into the 280s...

| yadda yadda!! Congrats on sneaking up on even scores Colster. I don't mind too much like, its the fact your ahead of me on de Cork list is more gripping!! Was the bird an adult in summer plumage like the one I saw in 1988?! I am still stagnated on 250 for Cork and 273 for Ireland. 310 for Japan is more like it though...tnx 4 de KoC and taytos fella, can't wait. |
