September 23, 2007 - sunday seawatch

A seawatch from 9 till 2 produced 2 great shearwaters, 1 sooty shearwater, 1 sabine's gull, 1 grey phalarope and 1 pomarine skua. The lesser yellowlegs was at the red benches in Clonakilty this morning. I gave up on migs at Galley this afternoon and hit Mizen for a barred warbler instead, which was nice.

that you are ahead of me now with the Barred Warbler? I thought you had one on Mizen with de Langer and I? Can't believe that jammy bollix has gone and done that. He better have something lined up for me on the 2nd and 3rd October....Home this week fella and I can't frickin wait

oi langar! barred wasn't a tick as I did indeed see one with you and the twat and the gimp at Mizen in 2004. However I is already one ahead of ya with that spot sand at ballyc - do try to keep up!

spoke to de langer today and he told of a fea's for a few seconds approx 10m off de rocks at Blanan while he was smokin fags and god knows what else!

Didn't see THAT species yesterday, but had shed-loads of Sab's, a Long-tailed Skua, maybe up to 100 Grey Phals, a Great Shear (at last! Had thought I wouldn't get any this year), a Little Gull etc off the Bridges. Didn't see that Barred on Mizen on Sat (still only seen 3 or so), but did manage flight-only views of the Citrine...just as well the calls are so distinctive, 'cos I got nothing else on it!
Mark: hope to meet you at some stage in Oct, and hope that things pick up a bit locally
