Help us look for Glow Worms!

As part of the Cotswold Water Park Biodiversity Action Plan (CWP BAP), The Cotswold Water Park Society’s Biodiversity Team and Ranger Team are currently looking for Glow Worms in and around the Cotswold Water Park. We need your help!

We know that Glow Worms can be found on the old railway line between Cricklade and South Cerney as well as the Canal Towpath near to South Cerney.

Do you know of other places where you have seen Glow Worms? Maybe you have Glow Worms in your garden? Or you know where they can be found?

If you know where Glow Worms can be found, please let us know, providing accurate locations, the date you saw them last and if possible, a count of the number you saw.

Or, if you are out walking your dog at dusk or walking home from the pub on a warm, still evening,  please keep a look out for them. You might find a new colony! The female Glow Worms will be seen glowing quite brightly in long grass, at the base of hedgerows or under trees; the glow is a distinct bright greenish glow, generally only seen when it is totally dark. The female Glow worm is only a few millimetres long but the glow is very distinct.

Please note that we do not give out details of Glow Worm sites on private land, so if you have glow worms in your garden please tell us without worrying that you will get hordes of unwanted visitors in the middle of the night!
