The Cotswold Water Park

The Cotswold Water Park (CWP) lies in 40 square miles of farmland and wetland between Cirencester, Swindon and Lechlade. To date 145 lakes have been flooded (April 2006) and this is set to increase over 50 years, creating other wetland habitats. CWP holds nationally important numbers of wintering waterbird, e.g. Smew, Great Crested Grebe, Gadwall, Coot and Pochard. In Spring and Summer visitors can hear Nightingales or see flocks of Hobby’s migrating through.

CWP 74: Great Northern Diver still on lake (Gareth Harris)

CWP 56: Many mallards and coot on waterlogged grass; 3 goosander; 6 tufted ducks; 3 cormorant swimming and diving for food; Many fieldfares in nearby trees (100+?) (Felicity Cobb)

CWP44: Very misty but 6 red-crested pochards discernable (Felicity Cobb)

CWP 41: Pair of gadwall; 4 tufted duck; Large numbers of coot, mallards and great crested grebes seen through the mist; Large flocks of tits and chaffinches in trees (Felicity Cobb)

CWP 57: c. 10 red-crested pochards seen but an awful lot of mist! (Felicity Cobb)

CWP 44/46: Very little activity but 2 grey herons flying over (Felicity Cobb)
