Breeding Waterbird Surveys: Cotswold Water Park 2007.
A small number of volunteers are needed to help survey lakes in the CWP for breeding waterbirds during Spring/Summer 2007; this will be one of the first breeding waterbird surveys undertaken across the whole CWP for some time. All 146 lakes will be surveyed if enough volunteers can be found. Please let me know if you would like to help us by surveying 3-4 lakes over the spring and summer. Only 5 visits are required (one each in April, May, June, July and August). Target species are Swans, Geese, Ducks, Grebes and Rails. (Waders, Gulls, Terns, Herons are excluded since these are covered in other surveys). Each visit will take only 2 hours approximately.
This work will help to significantly raise the profile of the CWP; until recently, much work has been focussed upon the wintering waterbirds. Some of our breeding waterbird populations are already nationally important, for example, Great Crested Grebe. Further survey work is required to fully appreciate the size of our breeding populations.
If you would like to help, please let me know as soon as possible.
