Please can we offer a huge thank you to all observers who report wing tagged Grey Herons, either directly to us or via the bird hide log books.

Coordinated and undertaken by Richard Hearn, this project has been running since 1999, focusing upon Heronries in the Severn Vale such as Frampton Gravel Pits, and in the Cotswold Water Park at Cleveland Lakes (CWP 74) and Whelford Pools (Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust Reserve, CWP111/111b). With increasing numbers of wing tagged birds, there are obviously an increasing number of re-sightings being reported.

Please keep a look out for wing tagged Grey Herons: each bird will bear a coloured ring on the tibia (above the "knee") and a wing tag in each wing, bearing a 2 letter code. If you see any of these birds, please contact us, recording the location, time, date of the sighting, the age of the bird if possible and noting the coloured ring and wing tag positions and inscriptions. Please also send us your contact details so we can send you feedback. I will forward all sightings to Richard Hearn.

Gareth Harris, Biodiversity Officer, Cotswold Water Park Society.
