The Cotswold Water Park

The Cotswold Water Park (CWP) lies in 40 square miles of farmland and wetland between Cirencester, Swindon and Lechlade. To date 145 lakes have been flooded (April 2006) and this is set to increase over 50 years, creating other wetland habitats. CWP holds nationally important numbers of wintering waterbird, e.g. Smew, Great Crested Grebe, Gadwall, Coot and Pochard. In Spring and Summer visitors can hear Nightingales or see flocks of Hobby’s migrating through.

Hayward Hide: 3 Little egrets & 1 Grey Heron; c 200 Lapwings over; 30 Teal; 10 Gadwall; 1 Green Sandpiper on land presently under excavation to right of hide Felicity Cobb

CWP 31: 1 Common Gull Felicity Cobb

CWP 79: 45 Canada Geese &large flock of Wigeon feeding on grassland Felicity Cobb

Lower Mill Estate: 466 Coot, 75 Mallard, 12 Moorhen, 27 Great Crested Grebe, 61 Pochard, 6 Red Crested Pochard, 230 Wigeon, 228 Tufted Duck, 44 Gadwall, 22 Teal, 9 Goldeneye, 8 Cormorant, 8 Mute Swan, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Little Egret, 4 Canada Geese, 65 Shoveler, 4 Little Grebes, 2 Lesser Black backed Gull, 6 Common Gull, 22 Goosander, 5 Pintail. (Total 1306) Gareth Harris (Highlights on CWP 41 were a flock of 18 Goosander - 8 males, 10 females).
