Reedbed Management work parties at Lake 68c/68d, October & November 2008.
Dates for the Diary!!!
As in previous winters, Cotswold Water Park Society staff will be undertaking and leading at least 2 work parties to manage the reed beds at Lakes 68c/68d at Cleveland Lakes, Ashton Keynes in the CWP. One work party will be part of a corporate team building exercise as we have successfully undertaken in the previous two winter. Two work parties will be supported by Society Staff, members of the Cotswold Water Park Ringing Group and some of the many local birders who assist at these work parties.
These work parties have proven to be extremely successful, reinstating management in many of the management compartments on the site; the rewards of improved management have been ample: wintering Bittern, roosting Hen Harrier and summer visits from Penduline Tit and Savi's Warbler and well as the usual array of breeding and wintering birds!
These successes are, in part, largely thanks to the fantastic efforts of the many volunteers who assist in these works: a huge thank you to you all.
In coming weeks, we plan to hold work parties on Saturday 25th October and Sunday 9th November 2008. I will send out reminders and further details nearer the time prior to each of these work parties. Many volunteers have already asked for details of this years work parties and some pre-warning, so please put either or both of these dates in your diaries!!!

If you are interested in helping with these work parties, please let me know nearer the time so we can plan for numbers and teams and tools.
You will need wellies (or waders if you have them), waterproofs, lunch and refreshments. All kit is provided although you may wish to bring your own gloves. We will start at 930 and finish at approximately 330/4pm.
I look forward to hearing from you and hopefully seeing some of you there.
Thanks Gareth Harris, Biodiversity Officer, Cotswold Water Park Society
