Blithefield, Week 4,

Posted at 4:44 PM on Sunday, August 3, 2008

We have been going to Blithefield Resevior at Rugeley for the last 4 weeks, partly in hope of seeing an Osprey, they have been present on and off every day during this period. But we havn't seen one yet. Today was no exception, the first words we heard when we got there was "There was an Osprey earlier seen fishing from the causeway" yes BUT NOT BY US!!!

We did see this Turnstone though in Blithe Bay, its the small one in the middle of the picture. There was also a Ringed Plover & a Dunlin there.

In Tad Bay we saw a Green Sandpiper, 3 Common Sandipers, 3 Dunlin, 5 Little Ringed Plover. There was also a young Peregrine Falcon around spooking the waders at times.

I've always wanted to take a picture of a Kestrel hovering, I finally managed it this morning albeit a bit of a scruffy specimin.

There are plenty of Gatekeeper butterflies around at the moment and we also saw 3 Small Coppers, I think that this is some kind of record as I've only seen singles previously.
