I left Stanley this morning at 04:30 along with Mick Reeves and Mike & Sue Morrison. We were all heading for North Arm for a bird that had been reported yesterday near the settlement. On the description it sounded very strange, so we decided we would have to check it out. When we got to the site, just after first light, we could find no sign of the mystery bird, after a couple of hours searching Sue went off to find the finder who we knew had taken a picture. After a while Sue returned with the picture of the bird, which turned out to be a Greater Yellowlegs. Almost certainly the bird that Mike & Sue found in January (See blog entry). Unfortunately I had to work in the afternoon so had to leave without seeing the bird.
On the way back to Stanley I had a look on one of the large ponds near North Arm settlement, which had a few very large flocks of Silvery Grebe on it. I counted a total of 308 birds along with large numbers of Speckled Teal, Flying Steamer Duck, Silver Teal, Chiloe Wigeon, Yellow Billed Pintail and a few Crested Duck.
