I went out to Bertha’s Beach this morning for a look around. The weather was driving rain in gale force winds from the South West so I did not hang around for long. On the beach there were hundreds of Two Banded Plover, with a few Rufous Chested Dotterel, Magellanic Oystercatcher and a single over wintering White Rumped Sandpiper in amongst them.
On the pond there were Speckled Teal, Chiloe Wigeon, 3 Yellow Billed Pintail, 2 White Tufted Grebe , a pair of Flying Steamer Duck , 6 Crested Duck and 3 Black Necked Swans.
The pond the opposite side of the road from Gull Island pond had 236 Black Necked Swans on it along with lots of White Tufted Grebe, Silvery Grebe, Yellow Billed Pintail, Speckled Teal, Silver Teal, Chiloe Wigeon. On the edge of the pond was a single Magellanic Snipe.
On the way back to Stanley I saw a pair of Southern Caracara and a nice dark phased male Red Backed Hawk.
