• Sunday, June 28, 2009 - Long Tailed Meadowlark In The Garden

During the last week of snow and freezing weather more birds have been visiting my garden and feeding on the wheat & corn I put out for the chickens.

Today I have had 40+House Sparrow, 2 Falkland Thrush, 12 Long Tailed Meadowlark, 1 Dark Faced Ground Tyrant & 5 Kelp Gull.

Always a nice bird to photograph. Glad to have you back in cyberspace. Thought the cold snap had driven you over to Chile for a bit of warmth.

This is a very beautiful bird. I love the red on its breast.

Thanks for identifying the heron for me. I don't know much about them. I'm told a black crowned night heron seems to be a better find around here than a green heron.

What a splash of colour and all those House Sparrows too. We are lucky they still visit and breed in our small UK garden. Also lots of other baby birds here at the moment - goldfinches, robins etc..., but nothing quite so bright as your Meadowlarks. Margaret Carr
