• Friday, September 11, 2009 - Up close and personal with Red Backed Hawk & Antarctic Fur Seal

This afternoon I went out to Cape Pembroke lighthouse in lovely spring weather of clear blue skies with no wind. At the point I can across a dark phased juvenile Red Backed hawk that was feeding on the carcass of a juvenile Kelp Gull.

Further along the coast I came across an Antarctic Fur Seal it also allowed me to get some very close up shots of it.

Cracking shot of the hawk mate. Looks like it was sat on your wing mirror. I imagine now your days are starting to lengthen

Cheers Steve, Yes the days are starting to stretch out a bit now. The last week has had a very Spring feel about it. Today should be the start of the return of Magellanic Penguins back at Gypsy Cove so off down there to have a look later.

All the best to your family.

Cheers
Alan
