Birding in the Falkland Islands

• Tuesday, September 22, 2009 - Magellanic Penguins

I went out to Gypsy Cove this evening to see if anymore Magellanic Penguins had returned. Just a little way along the path I came across the below Magellanic Penguin cleaning out a burrow. This bird, along with its mate, will become the most photographed Penguins in the world this year. The reason I can be sure this will be the case is because Gypsy Cove is the most visited Penguin rookery in the Falkland Islands and with this pair nesting right by the path they will be seen by all visitors (approx 30,000+)

Other birds also at Gypsy Cove this evening were White Bridled Finch, Long Tailed Meadowlark, Dark Faced Ground Tyrant, Falkland Thrush & a few singing Grass Wrens.

Those are some nice bird pictures. I like how round the second one is. It's neat how close you can get to the penguins.
