While out watching displaying Rufous Chested Dotterels at Stanley airport late this afternoon I heard a Baird’s Sandpiper calling, shortly afterwards it landed nearby on the grass verge of the runway. It was quite flighty due to getting a lot of hassle from the Rufous Chested Dotterels and Two Banded Plovers that are setting up breeding territories.
I believe this is a moulting adult, it is the earliest record of a Baird’s Sandpiper I have seen in the Falkland Islands.
