Saunders Island is our next stop, we are going to be staying in a small cabin with 10,000's of Penguins and Black Browed Albatrosses for company for the next three days

Along with the Black Browed Albatrosses are 4 species of Penguins including the second largest King Penguin Colony of 22+ birds

Gentoo Penguin chick chasing parent for food
On the second day I took a two hour hike to the far North West of Saunders Island where there had been reports of White Winged Coots breeding. Whwn I got to the pond I was amazed to see three different pairs of White Winged Coots with a total of five young.
These are only the second to fourth breeding records in the Falkland Islands

Speckled Teal in the back ground
Also on the edge of the pond is a single Pectoral Sandpiper my 5th different bird this summer. But the real surprise is a Red Gartered Coot that is getting so real hassle from one of the pairs of White Winged Coots.
Other birds breeding on the pond include Black Necked Swans, Silver & Speckled Teal, Yellow Billed Pintail and Chiloe Wigeon.
There are both species of Grebe on the pond but neither seem to have any young.
We are picked up early on the third day for our flight to carcass Island
