Birding in the Falkland Islands

• Monday, March 26, 2007 - 25th March 2007 Soft Plumaged Petrel

Today it is blowing 35- 45knots from the North East so I head off to Cape Pembroke to do some seawatching.

Lots of Sooty Shearwaters streaming past I counted 322 in the first 30 minutes, after about 1 hour I picked up my first Soft Plumaged Petrel some distance off but still prolonged views about 10 minutes later another one much closer and for a lot longer as it turned and headed back in a southerly direction after a couple of minutes.

Large flocks of South American Terns also passing the headland. A few BBA's and a single White Chinned Petrel and then finally a third Soft Plumaged Petrel.

Saw a pair of Southern Caracara's with there youngster near the Lighthouse as well as about 20+ Dark Faced Ground Tyrants
