• Wednesday, May 9, 2007 - 8th May 2007 Pintado Petrel

Again in Berkeley Sound today working with the reefer vessels transhipping, saw a large flock of Giant Petrels with lots of Pintado Petrels in amongst them.

Pintado/Cape Petrels are regular visitors to Falkland waters during the winter and spring. Here on this underwing shot you can see that the white upperwing patches are almost see through in appearance.

Upper wing shot of the same bird.

There was also a second white Southern Giant Petrel in the flock today, first time I have seen two white birds together.
