Birding in the Falkland Islands

• Friday, July 27, 2007 - Rufous Collared Sparrow

On Sunday 22nd July local birders Mike & Sue Morrison found an adult Rufous Collared Sparrow at Gypsy Cove in the late afternoon, I was out on a launch working at the time but managed to get to Gypsy Cove just before dark to see it and get the below record shot.

It is the first Rufous Collared Sparrow I have seen on East Falklands, the only others that I have seen was a flock of up to 10 birds on Steeple Jason in March 2003.

I have been down to Gypsy Cove many time since but have seen no sign of it.
