Birding in the Falkland Islands

• Sunday, November 25, 2007 - Another Cinnamon Teal & Hudsonian Godwit

Other birds seen today around Pleasant Roads beach were the small Gentoo Penguin colony and plenty of waders on the beach including 200+ White Rumped Sandpipers, Magellanic Oystercatcher, Blackish Oystercatcher & Two Banded Plover.

 

On the pond at the back of the beach along with the pair of Coscoroba Swans there were 26 Black Necked Swans, Yellow Billed Pintail, Flying Steamer Duck, Silver & Speckled Teal, Chiloe Wigeon, Silvery & White Tufted Grebe

 

In the White Grass between Pleasant Beach & Kelp Point pond we saw Falkland Pipit, Black Throated Finch, Grass Wren & Long Tailed Meadow Lark.

On the pond at Kelp Point only with the 11 Coscoroba Swans including 2 pairs with 11 Cygnets between them were Patagonian Crested Duck, Chiloe Wigeon, 3 pairs of Flying Steamer Ducks, Speckled Teal & Cinnamon Teal. The Cinnamon Teal was a much less colourful male than has been seen recently around the Fitzroy river.

On the beach there was a total of 36 Southern Elephant Seals but no Hudsonian Godwits.

We then went to Whale Point were we saw 2 Hudsonian Godwits plus hundreds of White Rumped Sandpipers.
