Birding in the Falkland Islands

• Sunday, December 16, 2007 - Orchids of the Falkland Islands

There are Four species of Orchids found in the Falkland Islands they are.

 

Gaudichaud’s Orchid Chloraea gaudichaudii (Locally Common)

Pale Yellow Orchid Gavilea australis (Rare but very large population near Stanley Airport aprox 2000+ plants)

 

Yellow Orchid Gavilea littoralis (Rarest of the 4 species)

               

 

Dog Orchid Codonorchis lessonii (Commonest of the 4 species)

All four can be seen around the Stanley area
