Birding in the Falkland Islands

• Sunday, May 18, 2008 - Great White Egret

Went out first thing this morning to try and find the Great White Egret that had been reported yesterday, the weather was terrible with driving snow in very strong south westerly winds.

After about 3 hours of searching all suitable places and covering about 6 miles of coastline I was heading back home when I saw the Egret flying across the harbour and heading generally in my direction, it landed about 20m from me.

This is only my second record of Great White Egret in the Falkland Islands, there has been less than 20 records for the Islands
