Birding in the Falkland Islands

• Tuesday, June 10, 2008 - Light-mantled Sooty Albatross

Got a call first thing this morning from the Operations Manager of Sulivan Shipping Ltd to say that a Light-mantled Sooty Albatross had been found on the deck of a longliner that was alongside the floating dock.

I went down to have a look and got there just before staff of Falkland Conservation got there to take it away to check it over and feed it.

After being given a good feeding of squid & fish it was looking much better and drier than I had seen it earlier.

The Captain of the longliner has offered to take the bird back to South Georgia waters where they are due to go fishing next, it will be taken back to the vessel this evening and fed during the journey south by the Observer onboard.
