Birding in the Falkland Islands

• Sunday, July 20, 2008 - Up close and personal

Went out this morning for a bit of birding around Stanley, down at Surf Bay there were a few birds about including Long Tailed Meadow Lark, Dark Faced Ground Tyrant, Falkland Thrush and a brief visit by a Falkland Pipit on the shoreline.

At Yorke Bay Pond there was the pair of White Tufted Grebe, 6 Crested Ducks and a couple of Silver Teal.

At Gypsy Cove I only saw 3 Grass Wrens, Falkland Thrush & a couple of Black Chinned Siskins.

On the way back from Gypsy Cove came across the two juvenile Red Backed Hawks from this year. They allowed me to approach very close and take some very close shots.
