Birding in the Falkland Islands

• Saturday, July 26, 2008 - Road Kill

A male Upland Goose was killed this morning by a car in Stanley, It took less than a couple of hours to be found by Red Backed Hawks firstly by an adult light phased female then by the time I had returned with my camera a dark phased juvenile bird was with the dead goose.

Note the long legged appearance in the below image as the bird pulls at the flesh.

This is the first time that I have seen a bird of prey standing so erect and very intent on what he was doing. It looks so well practised ... almost prehistoric. A wonderful set of pictures!

Great pictures and the one with the stance is so unusual.
