Birding in the Falkland Islands

• Tuesday, July 29, 2008 - Spring like weather

Clear blue skies and bright sunshine this afternoon, so I took the afternoon off work and headed out for a couple of hours birding.

At Gypsy Cove there were quite a lot of birds about, including 6+ Grass Wrens, Falkland Thrush, Falkland Pipit, Dark Faced Ground Tyrant, Black Throated Finch, Black Chinned Siskin and a single Tussucbird.

Yorke Bay pond had the resident pair of White Tufted Grebe plus Silver & Speckled Teal on it and around the edge lots of Ruddy Headed & Upland Geese, including a few pairs that are starting to hold and defend territories.

What beautiful pictures! I'm not a bird but I recently went on a migratory bird walk at Audubon Zoo in New Orleans. It was very interesting.
