Birding in the Falkland Islands

• Saturday, September 27, 2008 - Barn Swallow

Late this afternoon I found a Barn Swallow feeding in a ditch alongside the road to Stanley airport. Every so often it would perch on the bank of the ditch within a few feet of me but unfortunately the light was not in the best position for photography.

Barn Swallow is a regular visitor in small numbers to the Falkland Islands in Spring.

I chanced upon this photo whne perusing your blog.

Is it really a Barn Swallow. May be light etc, but looks very like a White rumped swallow (can you make out a white rump showing just in the bottom pic?)

Thanks for the comments about the Swallow Martin & Dave.

I can assure you both that it was a Barn Swallow. I watch it feeding for over twenty minutes.

Cheers
Alan
