Birding in the Falkland Islands

• Monday, September 29, 2008 - Southern Royal Albatross

Went out to the entrance of Port William this afternoon to give customs clearance to a trawler that was bringing in a crewmember in for the hospital treatment. The trawler was still processing it catch so there were thousands of birds following it.

There were Black Browed Albatross, Sooty Shearwater, Cape Petrel, Southern Giant Petrel, Antarctic Fulmar, White Chinned Petrel and the star bird being a Southern Royal Albatross.

Unfortunately I did not have my camera with me but thanks to John Pole-Evans for the below pictures.

John's photos gave me the wonderful sensation of being right there in the middle of these birds.

I've enjoyed seeing your stunning closeups in other posts. http://vickiehenderson.blogspot.com/
