Headed out to Cape Dolphin this morning a 2 hour drive from Stanley, on the way near Teal Inlet settlement we came across a large flock of 23 juvenile Southern Caracara’s a very impressive sight
When we got to Cape Dolphin settlement I found an Eared Dove on the green just in front of the house. Eared Dove is a rare vagrant to the Falkland Islands with a couple of records every few years. This is the second bird recorded this year
On the first pond on the way down to the Cape there were a large number of Magellanic Penguins an unusual sight in fresh water. Other birds on the pond included Chiloe Wigeon & Flying Steamer Duck.
On Swan pond there were 4 pairs of Black Necked Swans with young all had 3 cygnets apart from 1 pair that had 5. Other birds on the pond included White Tufted Grebe with 2 chicks, Chiloe Wigeon, Silver Teal, Speckled Teal, Yellow Billed Pintail on the edge of the pond large flocks of White Rumped Sandpipers and Two Banded Plovers along with a single 1st Summer Brown Hooded Gull.
On the way home came across the below Ruddy Headed Goose with young.
