A few hours spare today so a trip down to Old Moor RSPB  reserve nr Barnsley . Arriving at  12:30pm  Greenfinch and Black Headed Gulls were seen in the car park whilst having coffee and setting up.This port of call was the screen area were all the feeders are. Thsi resulted in good numbers of Tree Sparrows, Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Collard Doves, Robins in the scrub with alone Dunnock hopping around the floor. Pheasants picking at the seed on the floor with a very unusual Melanistic type Pheasant seen. On to the mere hide were there was alot of  Wigeon. Gadwall along with Shovelers, Cormorants. Little Grebes and Lapwings. On at the next hide alone Black Tailed Godwit was seen with Mute Swans Wigeon Moorhens Coots and two Grey Herons.
We then decided to move on down to the large hide, looking up a Green Woodpecker flying over took us by surprise. On entering the hide there was a few hunderd Golden Plovers and lots more coming in, with Lapwings six Redshanks which were new. Five more Black Tailed Godwits Teal and Ruddy Duck Gadwall and Pochard. Nothing new but a good day out with 34 species seen, on the journey back a few Kestrels and a single Buzzard near Woolley Edge.

Well thats english birding over for a bit, time to pack that suitcase and head off to the Gambia on the 17th for a few different birds.
