Brookie's Diary
• Friday, December 29, 2006 - Last day out 2006
Last day out for 2006 saw me and friend heading south to Exminster Marsh for the reported Falcated Teal 300 mile in total lasting 4 1/2 hours. The weather when we arrived was that fine rain that wets you throu, and it didn't stop all day. The birds were good. Great numbers of Black Tailed Godwits, Dunlins, Redshanks, Snipe, Grey and Golden Plovers with the Lapwing as supporting cast. Ducks seen were Teal, Wigeon, Mallard, Shelduck a few Pintail along with Shoveler. The species count wasn't out of this world 39 in total. Did we see the Falcated Teal the bird we went to see, a great big NO. Would I do it again I don't think so.600 miles for a days birding for me is way too far for a bird, I won't be talked in to that one again. A day local our within 2 to 3 hours of home is enough for this old bird. Heres to 2007 good birding
