Brookie's Diary

• Friday, February 9, 2007 - Pugneys Country Park

I thought I'd try and catch up with the reported Red Crested Pochard at Pugneys, it had been there a few weeks. As i got out of the car it was one of the first birds that I had a look at. It was very close in shore along with the other widfowl mainly Mallards and Mute Swans of course

After having 15 minutes or so with the bird a decided to move round the reserve finding Tufted Duck, Ruddy Duck, Shovelers, Pochards, Shelduck, Cormorants, Common Gulls, Black Headed Gulls, Coots and Moorhens.
I spent a while in the hide to try and find the Bitterns that had been reported as well, not today. I did see Great Crested Grebes, Goldeneyes, Lapwing and hundreds of Golden Plover. I also found a Redshank and a Great Spotted Woodpecker in the small wooded area next to the hide. That was the end of my day finding Pied Wagtails in the car park, which gave me a thought " how many good birds do you find in car parks??"
