Brookie's Diary
• Tuesday, May 27, 2008 - Potteric Carr
| I found my way to Potteric Carr again by a different route due to the M1 being closed between junctions 32 and 33. The weather was not good rain most of the day and the temperature was just in double figures, made me think of winter again. The birds were good with the start of Garden Warbler; good views of this skulking warbler were had. Overhead buzzed the usual Swifts, Swallows, House and Sand Martins. On the water there was a few ducks about with the usual Mallard and Tufted Duck, Ruddy Duck, Gadwall and Shoveler. At the new Huxter layout Redshank and a Kingfisher flew all the way thru. Other waders included the breeding Little Ringed Plover with Ringed Plover and Oystercatcher. The surprise for this year and a new breeder was the Avocet, with at the moment 4 young. Other warblers that I caught up were Whitethroat, Blackcap, Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff and Reed Warbler. Sedge Warblers have taken a drop this year at Potteric Carr with only 2 birds being found in the census. Sparrowhawk was the only raptor of the day. Bird total was 54 species. see list |
