Birding on the west coast of Sweden

Sunday, June 10, 2007 - light city birding and looking at a big ship

Posted in Local watching
Went to the city port to look at the newly returned East Indiaman Götheborg, a replica of the 18th-century ship that sunk less than an hour from home port after sailing safely to and from China.

East Indiaman Götheborg

After that, me and my girlfriend had a picnic near the trees in Slottsskogen where the Firecrests spend most of their time. Only saw one today, the female is hopefully brooding. Also saw a Nuthatch and a Robin feeding their offspring. When we packed up to leave I saw a gull or something that seemed unusually large and glided extremely well. After some fumbling with the binoculars it turned out to be an Osprey. New urban tick :)

I'm a bit frustrated that I had to arrange a party for the archaeology students association yesterday and couldn't tag along on the nightly trip to Säve. Quail, Nightjar and Long-eared Owl. All three life ticks.

About Me

26 year old birder from Gothenburg, Sweden. My goal for 2007 was get above 200 life-ticks. I managed 215 and the goal for 2008 was to get to 250. Right now it looks like I might get to 250 year ticks which is of course even better.
