Birding on the west coast of Sweden

Wednesday, June 13, 2007 - Transporting the shelter

Posted in Other
On monday we went to Hönö in the morning to get the materials for the shelter together and transport it and the constructed sections to the location to get it ready for assembly. A very hot day, a lot of board and plank carrying. At last the helicopter came and carried all the equipment and materials in four lifts in less than an hour. Very practical.

Birds seen throughout the day: Barn Swallows, Housemartins, Swifts, Linnets, Common tern with chicks, Ringed Plovers with chick, Rock Pipits, Eiders and a lot of gulls.

The purpose of the shelter is to protect sea-bird watchers from wind and weather on an island west of Gothenburg. A shelter was built there in 1993 but it can only take 10 or so people, so we're adding another, large one and connecting them.

Great job. It'll be an honour to twitch the Balearic Shearwater from inside that hide in August.
Guess you saw my little message in the KO forum?

About Me

26 year old birder from Gothenburg, Sweden. My goal for 2007 was get above 200 life-ticks. I managed 215 and the goal for 2008 was to get to 250. Right now it looks like I might get to 250 year ticks which is of course even better.
