Birding on the west coast of Sweden

Monday, October 8, 2007 - Three-toed Woodpecker, just beyond reach!

Posted in Local watching
There is now a Three-toed Woodpecker at Hönö, NW of Gothenburg.  I can't go there right now as I work 8-17 :( I need a job with flexible hours. Hopefully, the 'pecker is still there saturday and someone can be bothered to take me there. It's easy to get to Hönö by bus and ferry, but I'm not exactly longing for to find the cemetery where this birdie is with the aid of compass and phone-book map...

september 16 I got two life ticks; Shag and Razorbill, but dipped Puffin. October 6 I got a lot of october ticks and another two life ticks; Crested Tit and Great Grey Shrike. 208 total life ticks, 200 year ticks!

Seemingly I stirred up twitcher Gothenburg a while ago when I reported two Greenshanks in september. I was apparently very tired, since I meant to report only one Greenshank and the call I had guessed was Greenshank turned out Meadow Pipit. One Greenshank was clearly seen among Snipes and Lapwings though, no doubt there.

About Me

26 year old birder from Gothenburg, Sweden. My goal for 2007 was get above 200 life-ticks. I managed 215 and the goal for 2008 was to get to 250. Right now it looks like I might get to 250 year ticks which is of course even better.
