Birding on the west coast of Sweden

Thursday, November 15, 2007 - Nutcracker

Posted in Local watching
Last saturday trip was an attempt on an all too evasive Three-toed woodpecker. Got a green one, some Jays and Bullfinch but no 3T. We decided not to go look for Capercaille but went for Nutcracker instead. Sat for about an hour in a frosty forest but got only Ravens, more Bullfinch, Crested Tits and a lot of Goldcrest, so we went for a walk accompanied by diverse tits and the noise of Moose hunting. After a while we saw a hiking footpath crossing the road and decided to turn when we reached it. Five meters before the crossing we heard a Nutcracker call and the next second it flew past us across the road and away into the forest. Easily recognisable despite the altitude it was a rather nice life tick.

About Me

26 year old birder from Gothenburg, Sweden. My goal for 2007 was get above 200 life-ticks. I managed 215 and the goal for 2008 was to get to 250. Right now it looks like I might get to 250 year ticks which is of course even better.
