Dead Birds in December

Posted at 7:07 PM, Tuesday, January 15, 2008

Over New Year's weekend, we took Andie on our dead bird surveys at Sand Lake and Bob Straub State Park. She had a great time on the sand, and was particularly interested in this northern fulmar. It was one of ten we found on the two mile-long beaches. Plenty more we scattered over the beaches of Pacific City.

We also found three western grebes, two common murres, two Cassin's auklets, one Brandt's cormorant, one rhinoceros auklet, and one black-legged kittiwake.
