Meeting the Granddog

Last weekend, Max's mother Susan flew in from Montana to visit Max and Sarah and meet her granddog, Andie. The temperature climbed to the 90's, so the four drove to the beach. After a long and curvy drive through the coast range, they arrived in Pacific City where they stayed in a beach house with Sarah's parents.
Andy found the floor perfect for a nap.
The next day, Max, Sarah, and Andie surveyed dead birds at Bob Straub State Park.

They found a pair of wings that once belonged to a black-legged kittiwake, wings from a green-winged teal, and many other dried out birds.
On Sunday, they completed one more survey at Sand Lake on the way back to Hillsboro.

Susan enjoyed the weather which was much nicer than the last time she accompanied us on a survey.

After a few hours of sniffing out dead birds, Andie was beat.
On Monday, Max took Susan and Andie to some Portland hotspots, including Cathedral Park under the St. John's Bridge.

Andie did not appreciate the traffic noise above her on the bridge, but Max was happy to finally see and photograph the Gothic arches of the bridge supports.

After a great dinner at Sarah's grandparent's house, Max and Sarah dropped Susan off at her motel and she flew back to Montana the next day. It was a fun and busy visit for all and we look froward to the next one.
