Hockey Dog

This weekend, Andie displayed some surprising new skills while we all enjoyed many great walks. Andie’s aunt Greta came for a visit and was greeted by an extra loud bark. It sounded like Andie had been practicing her guard dog voice when we were not home.

Greta joined Andie, Max, and Sarah for a walk to the nearby park. Andie was quite eager to play fetch, bouncing all over the park when she saw the ball.

After a few tosses and retrievals, another dog named Baggins ran in to join the game.

At one point, Baggins beat Andie to the ball and picked it up. Undeterred, Andie kept running and turned back towards the dog and body-checked him at full speed, knocking loose the ball!

After winning back the ball, she was hesitant to give it up. Prior to the walk, everyone had watched a hockey game, but we did not realize that Andie was taking mental notes on how to hit like Pavel Datsyuk.

The next night, our friends Beth and Ron came over for dinner and brought their dog Manny. Manny is a "special needs" basenji with a very slight frame, so after a few body checks from Andie, Max and Sarah  decided to put an end to their play.
