Hakodate Birding

slow March days

Posted in Unspecified

Drove around quite a bit today but typically for early March there wasn't much about-certainly no new stuff. Whooper Swans were still at at least 3 localities, Brent Goose were still poking around in the bays and there were lots of Gulls (6 species) including several Glaucous Winged (adult is pictured above). Goosander were everywhere with many paired up and displaying. Not much on the sea. A very strong chilly westerly (opposite of the UK remember-west means cold here) meant the sea was a bit rough. 1 Great Crested Grebe coming into breeding plumage was close inshore and a relative rarity in Hokkaido. Otherwise only common stuff. C'mon spring-hurry up. Watched Chelsea last night-oh dear Jose what a shame.............. hope Liverpool fare better tonight and Robbie reopens his account.
