Hakodate Birding

Gulls, Eagles and Ducks

Posted in Unspecified

7 species of Gull in Hakodate this morning. Slaty Backed/Herring/Black Tailed/Mew/Black Headed/Glaucous/Glaucous Winged. A second year Glaucous is the main attraction in the above pic. 11 species of Duck in Hakodate too as well as 9 Grey Heron. Took a drive out to Onuma in the afternoon. 2 White Tailed and 1 Stellers Sea Eagle were sitting on the ice. Still a handful of Whooper Swan and lots of Goosander and Pintail on the lake. Only a brief check of the woods revealed Grey Headed, Great Spotted and Japanese Pygmy Woodpeckers, Nuthatch, Siskin and Marsh Tit. Liverpool have started scoring goals and England just beat India in Mumbai. Spring is coming (only 75% of the lake was frozen and most of the snow has gone from the streets of Hakodate). If I wasn't so skint and didn't hate my annoyingly loud neighbours so much life would be great. Music recommendation of the week: "Reuters" by Wire and "Blood on the Motorway" by DJ Shadow.
