Hakodate Birding

First "real" migrants of the year

Posted in Unspecified

A few quiet days in Hakodate. Enjoyed the footie last night. Asian House Martin were the first real summer migrants of the year. 5 of them over the local river (there are a couple of colonies under a pair of bridges). They appear to be virtually identical to the House Martins in Europe but are apparently a different species. The only other bird of note over the last few days was a lone Red Throated Diver on the sea which I saw as a result of a fruitless vist to the Immigration office to renew my Visa...............
