Mongolian Plover![]() A lousy pic of a Mongolian Plover at Yakumo this morning. There were several of them. The ones in full breeding plumage were either too far away or were running around too fast. Otherwise pretty quiet bird-wise. It was also cold, foggy and raining. Still lots of Ducks around...............Shoveler, Pintail, Gadwall, Wigeon, Scaup, Black and White Winged Scoters. Last week's Great White Egret was still present with the 30 or so Grey Heron. Not so many other waders-a handful of Little Ringed Plover, and 3 or 4 Grey-tailed Tattler. Back in Hakodate we went to Tachi-Machi Cape to check the sea and there wasn't much about in the rain and mist. A singing Blue Rock Thrush, a couple of alcids offshore (probably Rhinoceros Auklet) and the resident Japanese Cormorants. Didn't bother with the forest at Hakodateyama because of the weather............ Was car-less for the previous 2 days so just checked out the river near my flat............lots of little birds flitting around in the shrubbery. These are ALWAYS (or at least 95% of the time) either Black Faced Bunting or Japanese Bush Warbler. Still waiting for the Flycatchers to arrive and next week's visit to Hakodateyama should also get me some new birds for my Hakodate yearlist. Typically the day we got the car back the weather turned. Here's a pic of the cherry blossoms which were almost in full bloom near my place a couple of days ago. ![]() Not so sure about Sven's World Cup squad. Why only 4 strikers and so many midfielders? Just discovered Boro's UEFA Cup final is on TV in Japan tonight................... 19:04 - 10/5/2006 - post comment
