Hakodate Birding

Tattlers and lingerers

Posted in Unspecified

These were 2 Grey Tailed Tattler at Asabu yesterday. The only other wader around was a rather lost looking Whimbrel. Quite a few Ducks including the male Goldeneye below, several Gadwall and a handful of the commoner species.

This lone scraggly looking Whooper Swan was also pretty late.

In addition there were the usual common passerines: Reed and Black Faced Bunting, Oriental Great Reed Warbler, Stonechat etc as well as several Grey Heron and 1 or 2 Great White Egret and the inevitable Osprey.

A bit hungover today after Saturday night's dramatic game. The last few days in Hakodate were pretty low key birding-wise. Near my flat I was able to see Asian Brown Flycatcher, an adult Black Crowned Night Heron and a very very brief look at he bottom of Hakodateyama produced a male Narcissus Flycatcher and several singing Japanese Grey Thrush.
